NIKE SWIM INTERNSHIP 2018
TECHNICAL DESIGNER
Responsibilities:
As a Technical Design Intern, I had the opportunity to create swim product from concept to the final product.
In order to get there I learned how to create a technical package in PLM (bill of materials, point of measure, construction page etc.), I created 2D patterns in Gerber Accumark, and had the opportunity to use industrial sewing machines to construct swim styles that I designed.
I participated in fit sessions where we went over stretch, fit, and sizing. With the observations of the fit session, I was able to make changes to the patterns and reconstruct the garment for a second prototype.
I collaborated with teammates that focused on grading and markers. I had the opportunity to grade my own patterns and create markers for them. I saw my styles come to life from technical sketches to a 3D product.

Project Summary:
I worked on three major projects within the internship -
1. Play the role as a technical designer for three SP/SU swim styles for from design hand off to end product
2. Created my own design from an existing style from design to end product
3. Product tested a variation of straps that meet the costing, sustainable, and function
Project 1:
The three styles I worked on was a one piece swimsuit, a full coverage bikini bottom, and a hydro long sleeve top
-
Each garment went through multiple pattern changes, new prototypes, and fit sessions to find the perfect fit for our consumer
Project 2:
In the Independent project I redesign the long sleeve hydro top
-
The biggest challenge I faced in this project was the pattern changes from raglan to a set-in sleeve, as well as figuring out how to take a standard top to a loose fitting top. Both challenges helped me understand fit and construction better
Project 3:
The strap project involved coming up with innovative ideas of how to create a swimsuit strap that was thin, functional, and cost effective
-
In this project I was able to draft up ideas and collaborate with others, afterwards we were able to go into the sewing lab and construct some of our ideas, we were able to come up with the best option using power mesh to create a thin, functional stretch with strength and high stretch that was cost effective
