FRED MEYER/KROGER SUMMER INTERNSHIP 2015

GENERAL MERCHANDISING

Responsibilities:
The main responsibilities of this internship were to do specific tasks that helped give exposure to what buying entailed. Some of the task were to input information into excel sheets, analyze data from previous sales using Kroger's data retrieving programs, comparing yearly sales and profit to determine which products did well and which did not, I had the opportunity to sit in on daily meetings to get a grasp on what the buyers discuss each week and how each department works together as a team.
INTERN PROJECT:

Each intern had a project assigned to them by their supervisor depending on their department. I took what I learned from being a buyer and worked on a project for Outdoor Living, their Mix and Match program to seeing what we could do to help improve the program.

Project Summary:
What is the mix and match program?
There are five different chairs, three bright and two neutral, two balcony chairs, one bright, one neutral and three tables to choose from, a square, a balcony, and a rectangle glass top table.

The mix and match program gives the customers the freedom to purchase their own choice of chairs, tables, and fixings for their set, verses buying a set already prearranged.

The proposed question:

How can we improve the mix and match program to continue to make it a success?

  • My goal is to be able to see what kind of changes needs to be made in order to make more sales and to make this program something that should continue within Kroger.

    • How can we bring in a new customer to this program?

    • Is there another way to advertise this program to customers to bring in a new crowd?

Project solution:

  • Using ecommerce to be able to advertise and promote the program on a different platform

  • Creating new and fresh colors to be able to create more options for the customer
